What do ICT directors in Australian education need?

Studentnet® Demonstrations

A Single Sign-On login to one Studentnet service provides immediate, transparent and secure access to the other authorised services for that login identity. See how it works! Note: these are Demo Sites - feel free to play - you can't damage anything.
Demo 1: Easy Access

Demo 1: Use SSO as a student to access the Moodle learning system, then jump to your school Nextmail services or Joomla content platform, without further logins.

  1. Click here to log in as a student at the Moodle demo site.
  2. Click on "Login" at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. In the right-hand column click on the word "here".
  4. Login with - Username: studentexample Password: demo123
  5. You are now logged into Moodle as the user "Student Example" - see your name at the top right-hand corner.
  6. Keep this Moodle page open, and click here to open other services, e.g. the Nextmail demo site, or the Joomla demo site.
  7. Notice how you didn't have to login again? A single sign-on gives you full access to all of the SSO-linked services for "Student Example".
Demo 2: Password Control

Demo 2: Change the student password in Nextmail and see it instantly implemented in the other facilities.

  1. Log out of the Moodle page from Demo 1 - click "Logout" at the top right.
  2. Go to the Nextmail page from Demo 1 - click on "Settings" (top right), then "Accounts".
  3. Click on the link Google Account Settings
  4. Click on the link Change Password
  5. Enter Username: studentexample Password: demo123, then enter a new password and confirm. (Please note the password!)
  6. Try to log in at the Moodle site using the old password, demo123, which will now fail.
  7. Try the new SSO password you just implemented in Nextmail, and successfully log into Moodle.
  8. Go back to the Studentnet page. Please repeat steps 2 to 5 and change the password back to demo123 in readiness for the next user - thank you!

Demo 3: Administrator Configuration

Demo 3: As the administrator, change a student's password.

  1. Log in to Nextmail as the administrator - Username: demonstration@studentnet.edu.au Password: d3m0
  2. Click on the test school's domain schooltest.studentnet.edu.au.
  3. Click on "Accounts" then on the link for studentexample.
  4. Enter a new password and click on "Save".
  5. You have now changed Student Example's SSO password in all facilities. You can test by trying to log into Moodle or Nextmail or Joomla (links as in Demo 1) using the old and new passwords.
  6. Please repeat steps 1 to 4 and change Student Example's password back to demo123 in readiness for the next user - thank you!

Demo 4: Administrator Supervision

Demo 4: Check Student Example's email for possible misuse with the 'Quiet Inspection' facility.

  1. Repeat steps 1 to 3 of Demo 3.
  2. This time, place a check mark in the 'Quiet Inspection' checkbox, before clicking on "Save".
  3. A record of the use of 'Quiet Inspection' is maintained automatically by Nextmail.
  4. Now you have 30 minutes to log into and check Student Example's Nextmail account, using the new password you have established.
  5. After 30 minutes, Student Example's password will automatically revert back to its original value.
  6. Unless the student attempts to log in within the 30 minute period, the student will be unaware of the inspection.
